Kubo Shunman
1757~1820
He was an Ukiyo-e (浮世絵: picture of the floating world) artist. He studied painting under his grandfather, Masaharu Kubota (窪田政春) and Nahio Katori (楫取魚彦). Then he became a pupil of Shigemasa Kitao (北尾重政). He painted Bijin-ga (美人画:the picture of beautiful women). He didn’t use loud color like red but used mainly India ink and purple and green. Also, he enjoyed Kyoka (狂歌: traditional comedy of Japan).
