Utagawa Hiroshige
1797~1858
He was an Ukiyo-e artist, the pupil of Toyohiro Utagawa(歌川豊広). He painted mainly Yakusya-e (役者絵: picture of Kabuki actor ) , Musya-e (武者絵:picture of samurai ) and Bijin-ga (美人画: picture of beautiful women). Later, his landscape painting, “Totomeisyo” (東都名所) was drawn attention and he started to paint landscape painting in earnest. His major works are “Tokaido Gojusan Tsugi” (東海道五十三次之内: the 53 stations of the Tokaido) and ”Meisyo Edo Hyakkei” (名所江戸百景: A Hundred Views of Edo).
