He was a painter born in Edo (now Tokyo). It is considered his pen name, “Syokatsu” was originated from Chinese painter, Shin Syokatsu(諸葛晋). It was written that he collected old paintings and studied by himself in Unshitu-zuihitsu (雲室随筆).He was committed to Chinese painting and he was known as Kara-e (唐絵: a kind of Chinese painting) painter. His works are individualistic painting.
