He was a Japanese-style painter born in Shiga pref. He studied painting under Eigaku Kano (狩野永岳) and Kishi Renzan (岸連山). Then he became an adopted son of Kishi family. He was good at animal painting, especially, picture of tiger. He won the prize at the 3rd National Industrial Exhibition and the Chicago Expo. After the Meiji Restoration, he took in the Western technique actively.
