He was a painter born into Ishida family in Edo (now Tokyo). He became an adopted son of Okamoto family and served Okubo family. He studied painting under Keisai Onishi (大西圭斉) and Kazan Watanabe (渡辺崋山). He is known for Kacho-ga (花鳥画: picture of flowers and birds) based on the style of Shen Quan(沈南蘋).
