He was a Japanese-style painter born in Gunma pref. He went to Edo (now Tokyo) and studied painting under Nanko Haruki (春木南湖) since his childhood. Also, he studied poetry under Gozan Kikuchi (菊池五山). He had interact with artist and literati, including Buncho Tani (谷文晁), Sanyo Rai (頼山陽), Syochiki Sinozaki (篠崎小竹)
