He was a historian and poet. He was the son of Syunnsui Rai. (頼春水) He started to do strange behaviors from his youth because of strict upbringing . Then he left Hiroshima Domain and went to Kyoto. He opened a clam school there. There are many poets and calligrapher around him. He was the leader of these people. His main occupation is historian and poet, so painting is just avocation for him. We can feel his inclination toward Chinese paintings and knowledge.
