Tanomura Chikuden

1777～1835
He was a painter born in Ooita pref. He served as Confucian but retired at the age of 37. Then, he traveled Kyoto and Osaka and had interact with Bunjin (文人: literati). He went to Nagasaki pref. when he was 50. It is said that he thought he gave up painting because he was surprised at the expression of Chinese painting. We can feel the association between Chinese painting and his works.
