Katsushika Hokusai
1760~1849
He was an Ukiyo-e (浮世絵: picture of floating world ) artist born in Edo (now Tokyo). He became a pupil of Syunsyo Katsukawa (勝川春章) and he called himself as Syunro Katsukawa (勝川春朗). He studied the technique of various painting and produced many stellar works not only pictures but woodblock prints. His major works are “Fugakusanjurokkei” (富岳三十六景) and “Syokokutakimeguri (諸国滝廻り).
