Katsukawa Shunsyo
1726~1792
He was an Ukiyo-e (pictures of the floating world) artist. He studied under Syunsui Miyagawa (宮川春水). He contributed to the found of Yakusya-Nigaoe (portraits of Kabuki actors) with Buncho Ippitsusai (一筆斉文調). After Buncho stopped drawing, Syunsyo established various styles in Yakusya-Nigaoe as a leading expert. He depicted not only the actors on the stage but actor’s real self like in the backstage or their house. Also, he produced many excellent Bijin-ga (美人画: pictures of beautiful women).
