Koizumi Ayaru
1770~1854
He was a painter. He was born in Kimura family but became an adopted son of Koizumu family. He moves to Kurobane, Tochigi pref. in 1815 and was ordered to build Chinkokusya (鎮国社). Regarding painting. He studied under Unpo Shimazaki (島崎雲圃), Keiho Takada (高田敬輔), and Okyo Maruyama (円山応挙). Also, he was strongly influenced by Yuhi (熊斐). Ayaru was interested in Western painting too and established his own style by harmonizing various school’s style. His pictures of ayu (the kind of fish) are especially popular.
