Satake Eikai

1803〜1874
He was a Japanese-style painter born in Fukushima pref. He went to Edo (now Tokyo) and studied painting under Buncho Tani (谷文晁). Then he caught the attention of the chief minister, Naosuke Ii (井伊直弼) and became a “Goyo-eshi”(御用絵師: an official painter)
