Natsume Soseki
1867〜1916
He was a novelist born in Tokyo. He majored in English literature at the University of Tokyo After graduation, he became a teacher. Also, he went to England for studying of English literature. When he was at the age of 40, he became an employee at The Asahi Shimbun (a Japanese newspaper publisher). He wrote many famous novels, for example, “I am a Cat”, (吾輩は猫である) “Botchan”, (坊ちゃん) etc. His novels are loved by the people through the century.
He realized the essence of art. He said, “Art starts with self-expression and ends with self-expression.”
