He was a monk of Rinzai-sect (臨済宗) born in Aichi pref. He became a priest when he was 15 in Nagoya.
He became a chief monk of Soken-ji (総見寺) temple in 1796 and Myoshin-ji (妙心寺) temple in 1798.
