Ogata Kenzan

1663～1743
He was a ceramist, painter born in Kyoto. His elder brother was Korin Ogata (尾形光琳). In1694, Kenzan was took the mansion from the Nijo family and he studied the technique of ceramics under Ninsei Nonomura (野々村仁清) who lived near Kenzan’s mansion. Kenzan named his ceramic works as Kenzan-yaki and sold them. After Korin returned from Edo, Kenzan moved near Korin’s mansion. They produced their collaborative ceramics like “Sabie　Jurozu　Rokkakuzara” (錆絵寿老図六角皿）.
