Ogata Korin
1658~1716
He was a painter born in Kyoto. His brother was a potter, Kenzan Ogata (尾形乾山). Korin had an instinctive talent of design. His works are products of refined sense of beauty in Kyoto. In 1701, he was conferred Hokyo (法橋: the rank among monks and artists). In his later life, he went to Edo temporally and served daimyo (Japanese federal lords).
