He originally was a warrior of the Hiroshima domain. It is said he went to Edo (now Tokyo) and became a pupil of Shiseki So (宋紫石). Minzan taught painting to the domain lord, Shigeakira Asano(浅野重晟). Also, it is said there was a ema (絵馬: a picture tablet) that he painted at Itsukushima shrine (厳島神社)in Hiroshima. Therefore, it is considered he introduced the style of Shen Quan to Hiroshima.
