He was a Japanese-style painter born in Gifu pref. He studied painting under Kougyo Terasaki(寺崎広業) and Beisen Kubota (久保田米僊) at Tokyo Fine Arts School. He moved to Kyoto in 1919, and became a pupil of a painter, Kansetsu Hashimoto (橋本関雪) He specialized in Kacho-ga (花鳥画:flower and bird painting)
