He was a monk of Shingon-sect (真言宗). He criticized the Buddhism society at the time and devoted himself to restore the Buddhism commandment. He devoted himself to study Sanskrit. He preached Buddha’s teaching clearly to laymen. Also, he produced many waka (和歌) poetry and calligraphy.
