He was a vassal and gunner. He studied gunnery under Syuhan Takashima (高島秋帆) and taught the technique he studied to Syozan Sakuma (佐久間象山) and Takayoshi Kido (木戸孝允). When the arrival of Perry, he made gun battery. Also, he studied painting under Buncho Tani (谷文晁). His works reached art.
