He was a politician, the first Prime Minister born in Yamaguchi pref. He studied at Syoka Sonjuku (松下村塾). He participated in the movement called “sonno joi” (尊王攘夷: movement to revere for the Emperor and the eliminate foreigners ). After the Meiji Restoration, Hirobumi became the governor of Hyogo prefecture. After that, he worked in the center of government. In 1909, he was assassinated at Harbin Station in Korea.
