Sakaki Hyakusen
1697~1752
He is regarded as one of the pioneers of Bunjin-ga (文人画:literati painting) along with Taiga Ikeno (池大雅), Buson Yosa (与謝野蕪村). Also, he regarded as the first person to drew full-scale landscape painting using Chinese style. He was born in Nagoya pref. He studied haiku (俳句: Japanese seventeen-syllable poem) at first, later he begun to study painting. He moved to Kyoto in his 30’s and changed name to Hyakusen. His painting style is diverse, including Chinese painting, Japanese ancient painting.
