He was loyalist. He had influence on many loyalists as a pioneer of the idea of Sonno Joi (the principle s of reverence for the Emperor and the elimination of foreigers). He was arrested at Ansei no Taigoku (安政の大獄: suppression of extremists by the Shogunate).He was interrogated and died at 45.
