Nishikawa Shundo

1847～1915
He was born in Edo (now Tokyo). He studied calligraphy under Setujo Nakazawa (中澤雪城).Also, he studied Chinese classical literature under Kyosyu Hirata (平田虚舟) and Gyoson Kaiho (海保漁村). First, he worked as a doctor. However, he quit the job and worked at the Ministry of Finance for 2 years. Then he became a calligrapher. He valued Japanese style. On the other hand, he introduced Chinese style actively.
