Ichikawa Beian
1779〜1858
He was a Confucian born in Edo (now Tokyo). His father was a Confucian, Kansai Ichikawa (市川寛斎). He studied under his father since his childhood. Also, he studied calligraphy and Neo-Confucianism. He is regarded as one of the “Bakumatsu no Sannpitsu” (幕末の三筆: the three greatest calligraphers during the end of Edo period).
