Saito Yoshishige

1904〜2001
He was born in Tokyo. He is called the pioneer of Japanese modern art. He belonged in Nika-kai (二科会: the name of Art Association) and Art and Culture Association. Then he became independent and pursued modern art by using abstract expression. He won many international prizes in Bienal International de Artes de Sao Paulo and Biennale di Venezia, and so on. Recently, his works are reappraised from home and abroad.
